Diagnosis:
Osteitis Condensans Ilii
Findings: (Images 1 & 2)
Bilateral, symmetric sclerosis of the iliac side of the
sacro-iliac joints is present. The sclerosis appears triangular in shape.
Erosions are absent. (Images 1a & 2a)
Discussion:
Osteitis condensans ilii is symmetric sclerosis of the iliac side of
the sacro-iliac joint found in young multiparous women. It is less commonly
seen in males and can be painful. It is felt to be a stress-related phenomenon,
secondary to instability at the symphysis pubis. It may spontaneously resolve
on cessation of stress, or on surgical stabilization at the symphysis pubis.
