ProScan Imaging Education Foundation:
Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence in Medical Imaging Education
One day in 1988, noted Cincinnati radiologist and MRI expert Stephen J. Pomeranz, M.D., invited several of his colleagues to his home to informally discuss the nuances of diagnostic imaging scans. His wife, Penny, baked a cake for the group to enjoy as they talked about the many challenges of their fast-changing profession. Thus Dr. Pomeranz began what was to become an extraordinary teaching career.
Because he found these early teaching experiences so rewarding and productive, Dr. Pomeranz soon founded the MRI Education Foundation to formally offer accredited medical education opportunities to colleagues. As a thought leader and innovator in advanced diagnostic imaging, he was able to develop educational activities and materials that are used today by physicians all over the world.
As the founder, CEO, and medical director of ProScan Imaging – with its network of freestanding imaging centers and thriving international teleradiology practice – Dr. Pomeranz could also give physicians access to one of the largest bodies of MRI case experience in the world. Thus, physicians who attend our courses and hands-on workshops, or complete our intensive Year-Long and Visiting Fellowships, do their learning in a thriving clinical setting.
ProScan Imaging Education Foundation has its own educational theater with state-of-the-art reading centers, as well as a new Education Center filled with study carrels and proprietary educational materials for use by course attendees, visiting fellows and staff.
These facilities are housed within ProScan Imaging’s busy clinical diagnostic imaging practice, providing unique, hands-on learning opportunities for radiologists and other physicians to study advanced imaging in a high-volume, fast-paced setting. The primary goals of our educational programs are simple: improved clinical and diagnostic skills, practical applications of study topics, and -- most important of all -- higher-quality patient care.
Dr. Pomeranz has a unique capacity to teach physicians at their own level of understanding, which draws physicians of all levels of experience to our educational programs.
One doctor recommends our educational program to another, and so on.
Our students come from cities and rural practices all over the Americas, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Asia.
An overwhelming majority of our past Fellows report that they would recommend the experience to others.
Quite often, strong bonds form among the Fellows, Dr. Pomeranz and the other attending radiologists, and the Education staff.
Many physicians come back regularly for courses or self-directed studies.
