Child Development Through Chess

The Cris Collinsworth ProScan Fund strongly supports child development and growth through the game of chess. Chess is a perfect medium to grow and work the mind. It teaches vital life skills, like strategy and preparation and builds character through sportsmanship, with every match beginning and ending on a handshake.

You can travel anywhere in the world to sit down and play a game of chess.
Chess is not a game discriminatory in nature. Regardless of age, race, gender, language, physical ability, or economic background, you can play chess. It’s a game with no limits.

Studies have shows that learning and playing chess helps children develop critical thinking skills and build self-esteem, while teaching and empowering them to succeed. The Queen City Classic Chess Tournament and other community chess programs provide unique opportunities that appeal to all age groups, stimulates problem-solving skills, easily crosses cultural and economic status and bring smiles to the faces of every child while they are learning.
