When The Iams Company decided they wanted to offer advanced imaging services to their veterinary partners and their non-human patients, they sought out the nation’s premier provider of clinical outpatient magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for people. For many years, ProScan Imaging has combined world renowned radiological expertise and their unsurpassed technical imaging expertise to improve the lives of human patients around the world.
In September 2002, in an innovative partnership with ProScan Imaging in Cincinnati, the first IamsPet Imaging Center opened in Vienna, VA. This first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art facility is dedicated solely to bringing today’s best MRI technology to pets. MRI is an advanced diagnostic tool that uses magnetic energy and radio waves to create detailed images of tissue, allowing veterinarians to form more accurate diagnosis of not only tumor-related disease such as cancer (without invasive exploratory surgery), but also neurological disorders of the brain and spine, stroke, and soft tissue problems such as arthritis and/or bursitis. The MRI units at the Iams Pet Imaging Centers are not only state-of-the-art, but rival the capabilities and quality of MRI units found in human MRI facilities. Since its opening, the Vienna Center has become the world leader in pet MRI scans, based on nearly 3,000 case referrals.
ProScan, a world leader in human MRI technology and education provides technical expertise, day to day operations, and assistance with future site selection and development. Two more Iams Pet Imaging Centers have opened - one on the campus of North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, N.C., and another in Redwood City, California, near San Francisco.
