| Pink Ribbon Empowerment Program (PREP)
PREP is a culturally competent, age-appropriate outreach program that teaches the importance of breast health through interactive presentations and empowers women to take charge of their health and lives by enrolling in an annual screening mammogram program.
While the overall emphasis of PREP is to reach ALL low-income, uninsured women, PREP is well aware that although African American and Hispanic women are also less likely to develop breast cancer than white women, they are more likely to die of breast cancer because their cancers are often diagnosed at a later stage. R eaching these specific groups of women with the message of early detection through mammography and overall breast health is integral to saving lives. PREP advocates targeted outreach services aimed at these specific populations and incorporates a great deal of cultural sensitivity into its efforts.
PREP also teaches the importance of the breast self examination and clinical breast examinations.
PREP is made possible in part by a grant from the Charlotte R. Schmidlapp Fund, Fifth Third Bank Trustee. |
