Power of Pink
Created in 2007 to honor the outstanding efforts of a Tri-State individual or organization who has used their first or second-hand experience with breast cancer to give back to the community, The Power of Pink Award seeks to recognize the many valuable and often unnoticed people and services that are so instrumental in helping women as they begin their healing journey from this devastating disease.

The Karen Wellington Memorial Foundation (KWMF)
Congratulations to the Karen Wellington Memorial Foundation (KWMF) for being selected as the 10th Annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon Power of Pink award recipient. Each year, the Pink Ribbon Luncheon committee recognizes an organization or individual in the community dedicated to serving those suffering with breast cancer. This year, the Pink Ribbon chose the KWMF for its commitment towards encouraging women to appreciate the here and now and LIVE their lives to the fullest.
An extraordinary mother, wife, and friend, Karen Wellington received a breast cancer diagnosis when she was only 30-years-old. As a young mother of two, Karen did not let breast cancer become a barrier in LIVING her life. She viewed her 10-year battle against breast cancer as a 10-year commitment to living life to the fullest. Shortly after Karen lost her battle with the disease, the KWMF was created by her family and friends to honor Karen’s life, share her legacy, and inspire women to LIVE every day. The foundation helps women diagnosed with breast cancer celebrate their life by funding a variety of health related activities that focus on the healthy body – “the legs that can still walk, the lungs that can still breathe, the mind that can still create, and the heart that can still love,” as quoted from the organization’s website. With a powerful message, recent events have raised money and granted vacations, entertainment, and donations to patients and families LIVING with breast cancer.
Karen Wellington was known as a fantastic party planner, “she loved celebrating, especially in honor of someone else”. Besides party planning, Karen was also a hands-on mom in the lunchroom and as a coach on the soccer field. She supported the Breast Cancer Alliance, Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, Junior League, and Stepping Stones Center. Her gifts continue to live on in the work of The Karen Wellington Foundation, the Karen Wellington Memorial Campership Fund at Stepping Stones Center, the AK Steel’s Steel Magnolia Award, and through Foundation gifts to individuals and organizations that encourage people to LIVE more fully with breast cancer.
The Karen Wellington Memorial Foundation reminds us all to celebrate living, loving, and laughing every day. The Pink Ribbon Luncheon committee is proud to honor the work being done in Karen’s memory at the 10th Annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon!

In 2010, The Wellness Community center was honored as the Power of Pink award recipient at the 9th Annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon. The Wellness Community offers support and stress management to cancer patients and their loved ones.
A friend of the Pink Ribbon wrote, "The Wellness Center is a place where support flows in an infinite circular motion, where those who receive support find themselves also providing support to others. It’s a place that is inundated with positive energy, where I learned to live and even dance with the diagnosis."
