Register Now for the 9th Annual
Queen City Classic Chess Tournament

Registration for the 9th Annual Queen City Classic Chess Tournament is now open!

This year's tournament will be held on March 12-13, 2010 at Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals. As one of the largest scholastic chess tournaments in the Midwest, the Queen City Classic expects 700 students at this year’s event.

The tournament was designed to create an opportunity where children can participate in an exciting event, regardless of any physical or economic limitations. Highlights of this year’s event include a blindfold match between grandmasters, a “simul” session in which grandmasters and masters play 40 chess matches simultaneously, an awards ceremony featuring over 150 trophies, and special appearances by local celebrities.

Each student participant, ranging in age from kindergarten through college, will have the opportunity to play five competitive rounds of chess, matched with peers in one of 17 sections based on their age or skill level. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet the tournament's history-making chess celebrities, including the first and only African-American International Grandmaster,
Maurice Ashley; the youngest woman ever to win a U.S. Women's Championship, International Master Irina Krush; and the most active Grandmaster teacher in America, International Grandmaster, Gregory Kaidanov.

The 2010 QCC Chess Tournament will also feature two new student competitions held prior to the chess event, including a QCC T-Shirt Design Contest and QCC Chess Set Design Contest. Both activities are open to interested kindergarten - college aged students who would like the opportunity to be honored and have their designs featured at this year's event.

The annual Queen City Classic is designed to increase chess participation among children of all ages, backgrounds, and playing levels. For more information about this year’s event and our exciting new additions, click here.
